Bartlett Vancouver Rhinoplasty

Nose Surgery Procedure Information

VANCOUVER RHINOPLASTY SPECIALIST

Whether it be the nose you inherited or a change related to aging or an injury, nothing has a greater impact on how a person looks than the size and shape of the nose. Every year, both men and women who are interested in improving the appearance of their nose seek a consultation with a facial plastic surgeon. Because the nose is the most defining characteristic of the face, a slight alteration can greatly improve one’s appearance. Dr. Bartlett is a Vancouver rhinoplasty specialist with extensive experience in facial cosmetic surgery. Whether it is your first surgery to your nose’s shape and size, or complex revision rhinoplasty for patients who have previously undergone nose surgery, his realistic and attentive approach can help you achieve a natural look.

OPEN (EXTERNAL) RHINOPLASTY

OPEN (EXTERNAL) RHINOPLASTY

CONCERN: PROMINENT BRIDGE AND TIP

This patient had a prominent nasal dorsum and tip. She underwent hump reduction and osteotomies, tip narrowing and tip retrodisplacement (ie moving tip closer to her face) by resecting a segment of her tip cartilages. ONE YEAR POST OP.

CLOSED (ENDONASAL) RHINOPLASTY

CLOSED (ENDONASAL) RHINOPLASTY

CONCERN: HUMP

This patient underwent bony and cartilaginous hump reduction with osteotomies as well as refinement of the tip and rotation of the tip upwards and elevation of the columella (base of nose) by shaving septal cartilage. ONE YEAR POST OP.

REVISION RHINOPLASTY

REVISION RHINOPLASTY

CONCERN: TIP

This patient was troubled with a distorted tubular tip with significant alar retraction after a previous rhinoplasty. She required reinforcement of her tip cartilages using septal cartilage extending out to the side to create a more uniform tip. This also helped displace the alar rim downwards. 9 MONTHS POST OP.

The different types of Rhinoplasty and cosmetic nose surgery

The most common types of nose surgery performed by Dr. Bartlett include open (external) rhinoplasty and closed (endonasal) rhinoplasty, nasal augmentation and revision rhinoplasty. An open rhinoplasty approach involves incisions along the outside of the nose. A closed rhinoplasty approach uses incisions inside the nostrils so there isn’t noticeable scarring after the procedure. Nasal augmentation generally involves placement of a graft of your own cartilage or at times use of a synthetic implant such as Goretex®. An important part of the evaluation includes analysis of your chin. People who want rhinoplasty to make large noses smaller often may benefit from balancing the profile with augmenting what may be a ‘weak’ chin, as a weak chin may make your nose look more prominent. This is referred to as chin augmentation surgery. If chin augmentation seems beneficial, it is usually best to do both procedures at the same time.
